How to get your NILSO onto the wall

With a little preparation, your NILSO wall sticker becomes a real eye-catcher in no time. Take your time and follow our guide step by step.

Before you start: the wall check

  • Freshly painted? Please let it dry for at least 3 to 4 weeks, ideally longer. The paint must fully cure so the adhesive can grip properly.
  • These paints don't work: latex, silicone and silicate paints as well as dirt-repellent paints. We can't guarantee adhesion on these.
  • Only wipe the wall dry. Damp cleaning is a NO-GO.
  • Normal room temperature is best – not on an ice-cold wall.

Planning and positioning

First lay the design out on a flat surface and check the desired position on the wall.

Tip: For large wall stickers, mark the alignment with a pencil or masking tape. Make sure it sits straight and has enough distance from edges and furniture.

Applying larger designs

Take your time and work from top to bottom.

  1. Look and plan first. Lay out all the pieces and decide where everything goes.
  2. Start at the top. Peel off only part of the backing paper, place the design and smooth it down with your hands.
  3. Work your way down bit by bit. Peel off another piece, smooth it down again. With several strips, always do one after the other, in order.

It's easier if someone can help, but it isn't necessary.

Done

If something is crooked, simply reposition it. Carefully smooth out small air bubbles with your finger or a soft cloth from the centre outwards.

Done – and your new wall design looks great!

Sensitive wall surfaces

On freshly painted, sensitive or textured surfaces, adhesion may be limited or paint may come off when the sticker is removed. Test the wall sticker in an inconspicuous spot first. Do not apply to crumbling, damp or heavily textured plaster. If in doubt, we recommend checking the suitability of the surface beforehand.

Repositioning & removing wall stickers

Loosen the design slowly at one corner and peel it off the wall as flat and carefully as possible. If needed, you can warm it slightly with a hairdryer on a low setting so the adhesive comes off more easily. Keep the hairdryer moving and at a sufficient distance. Never pull abruptly – especially with sensitive or older paint.

Important notes

Wall stickers are not suitable for children under 3: small parts and films can be swallowed or pose a choking hazard. Place the design out of reach of young children. Do not use sharp or pointed objects when pressing it on. Adhesion may vary depending on the wall paint, surface and room climate.
